Empazin M 12.5/500 is indicated for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in adults, as an adjunct to diet and exercise, especially in patients where a combination therapy is appropriate.
This fixed-dose combination works via dual mechanisms:
- Empagliflozin: Inhibits the SGLT2 transporter in the kidneys, promoting urinary excretion of glucose by preventing its reabsorption.
- Metformin: Reduces hepatic glucose production and enhances insulin sensitivity, improving glucose uptake by peripheral tissues.
Together, they synergistically lower blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.
