Sitagliptin (DPP-4 inhibitor): Prolongs action of incretin hormones (GLP-1 & GIP), enhancing insulin release and suppressing glucagon in a glucose-dependent manner.
Metformin (Biguanide): Lowers hepatic glucose output, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves peripheral glucose uptake & utilization.
👉 Together, they provide complementary mechanisms for better glycemic control.
Adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus where both sitagliptin and metformin therapy is appropriate.
⚠️ Not effective in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
⚠️ Safety not established in patients with history of pancreatitis.
