Company Name: Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Indications of Zolium XR 2Â
The drug Zolium XR 2 is a member of the benzodiazepine drug class. It is a medication that is prescribed to treat anxiety. Calming the brain and altering brain activity, helps prevent panic attacks by calming the body.
Pharmacology
Triazole analog Zolium XR 2 is a member of the 1,4-benzodiazepine drug class. It functions as an anticonvulsant, hypnotic, and anxiolytic. Alprazolam’s action is thought to be mediated by the benzodiazepine receptor and Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) complex. Like other benzodiazepines, it has a dose-dependent CNS depressive effect that can range from mild impairment of task performance to hypnosis.
Dosage & Administration
- Patients taking multiple Alprazolam 0.25/0.5 mg dosage regimens should take Zolium 0.5/1 mg once daily, preferably in the morning.
- The tablets should not be chewed, crushed, or broken; they should only be taken whole.
- A dose of 0.25 to 0.5 mg administered three times per day should be used to start the treatment.
- The dose may be increased in increments of no more than 1 mg/day every 3 to 4 days, depending on the response.
- The daily dose shouldn’t be higher than 4 mg.
- Periodic reassessment and consideration of dosage adjustment are necessary for these situations because occasionally patients with panic disorder may require as much as 10 mg per day to achieve a successful response.
- Dosage should be individualized for maximum beneficial effect with the lowest possible dose.
- If side effects occur at starting dose, the dose may be lowered.
- The dosage should be gradually decreased when stopping therapy by no more than 0.5 mg every three days.
- The typical starting dose is 0.25 mg, two or three times per day, and maybe gradually increased if needed and tolerated in elderly patients or patients with advanced liver disease.
Interaction
Concomitant use of other psychotropic medications, anticonvulsants, antihistaminics, alcohol, and oral contraceptives may exacerbate Alprazolam’s CNS-depressant effect.
Side Effects
If side effects do develop, they normally arise at the start of treatment and lessen as the patient continues to take the drug. Drowsiness and light-headedness are the most common adverse effects. Depression, headache, disorientation, dry mouth, constipation, and other adverse effects are possible.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Alprazolam is classified as a pregnancy category D drug, which indicates it should be avoided during pregnancy. Alprazolam, like other benzodiazepines, is thought to be secreted in breast milk. As a result, breastfeeding should be avoided by moms who must take Alprazolam.
Precautions & Warnings
- Alprazolam shouldn’t be increased in dosage or stopped suddenly without consulting a doctor because it can lead to psychological and physical dependence.
- The doctors must choose the treatment’s duration. Alprazolam use should be cautious in people with hepatic or renal disease, chronic pulmonary insufficiency, or sleep apnea.
