Generic name: Ketotifen
Therapeutic Class: Cromoglycate & related drugs
Main Uses:
Prevents bronchial asthma attacks (prophylactic use, not for acute attacks)
Relieves allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis
Treats hay fever and urticaria (hives)
Reduces itching, pain, and tenderness in neurofibroma
Anti-allergic + antihistamine properties
- Stabilizes mast cells → prevents histamine release and allergic reactions
- Reduces the number, severity, and duration of asthma attacks over time
Not useful for stopping an ongoing asthma attack — works as long-term prevention
Do not use if:
- You take oral antidiabetic medicines (may cause a reversible drop in platelet count)
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding (safety not established)
