Seretide is prescribed for the long-term management of asthma when combination therapy (a long-acting β₂-agonist and an inhaled corticosteroid) is appropriate. It is recommended for:
- Patients who are not adequately controlled with an inhaled corticosteroid and an as-needed short-acting β₂-agonist.
- Patients already stabilized on both an inhaled corticosteroid and a long-acting β₂-agonist.
Seretide contains two active components:
- Salmeterol Xinafoate: A long-acting β₂-agonist that helps in the management of asthma and other airway obstructions. It binds to β₂-receptors and provides bronchodilation for up to 12 hours.
- Fluticasone Propionate: A corticosteroid with potent glucocorticoid effects. It reduces airway inflammation and prevents asthma exacerbations, providing symptom relief without significant systemic side effects.
By combining these two medications, Seretide improves lung function, reduces symptoms, and lowers the risk of severe asthma attacks, offering a convenient regimen for patients requiring both treatments.
