Calcium with Colecalciferol (Vitamin D₃)
Calcium and vitamin D play a vital role in maintaining strong and healthy bones. Colecalciferol is a natural form of vitamin D that helps the body absorb calcium efficiently from food and supplements.
Vitamin D is mainly produced in the skin when exposed to sunlight, but it is also obtained from certain foods such as oily fish (including sardines, herring, salmon, and tuna) and eggs. Without adequate vitamin D, the body cannot properly absorb calcium, even if calcium intake is sufficient.
Effects of Vitamin D Deficiency
A mild deficiency of vitamin D may not cause obvious symptoms but can lead to general muscle or bone discomfort and increase the risk of bone thinning (osteoporosis). More severe deficiency may result in bone softening, causing conditions such as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.
For individuals at risk of vitamin D deficiency, doctors may recommend calcium combined with colecalciferol as a regular supplement. These products are available both on prescription and over the counter at pharmacies.
