Mylostat [Hydroxyurea (Hydroxycarbamide)] is indicated for:
- Melanoma
- Resistant chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
- Recurrent, metastatic, or inoperable carcinoma of the ovary
- Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (excluding the lip, used with irradiation therapy)
- β-thalassemia, essential thrombocythemia, and polycythemia vera
- Sickle cell anemia: To reduce the frequency of painful crises and the need for transfusions.
Hydroxyurea (Antimetabolites)
Mylostat 500mg Capsule is used to manage:
- Resistant Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)
- Locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (excluding the lip)
- Cervical cancer
Patients with a history of blood disorders or severe anemia.
Caution Required:
- Liver, lung, or kidney diseases
- Myelosuppression (low white blood cells, red blood cells, or platelets)
- Pregnancy: Not recommended due to potential harm to the fetus (Pregnancy Category D).
- Breastfeeding: Not recommended; can harm the infant.
- Children: Not established for safety and efficacy.
- Elderly (65+ years): Use with caution; close monitoring is required.
- Avoid use due to potential risks to the fetus or breastfeeding infant.
- Dose adjustments and frequent monitoring may be necessary.
