Description

Depram is a tricyclic antidepressant from the dibenzazepine group. While its exact mechanism is unclear, it is believed to enhance adrenergic synapses by blocking norepinephrine uptake at nerve endings. Its role in treating childhood enuresis is thought to be separate from its antidepressant effects.

Imipramine inhibits the neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, increasing their concentration in the synaptic cleft. This heightened neurotransmitter activity is believed to alleviate depressive symptoms by enhancing stimulation of the post-synaptic neurons and modifying brain signaling pathways.

  • Tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) from the dibenzazepine group.
  • Treatment of depression, improving mood, sleep, appetite, and interest in daily activities.
  • Used in combination therapy to manage enuresis (bedwetting) in children.
  • Boosts brain activity by increasing the levels of certain chemicals, such as norepinephrine and serotonin, in the brain.

Adults (Depression):

  • 100 mg orally per day, adjusted based on doctor’s advice.

Children (Enuresis):

  • Initial dose: 25 mg per day.
  • Take at least one hour before bedtime for bedwetting.
  • Take the missed dose as soon as possible unless it is near the time of the next dose.
  • Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.
  • Seek immediate medical assistance in case of overdose.

Discuss with your doctor before starting Imipramine, especially if:

  • You are allergic to Imipramine, medications, or specific foods.
  • You are taking any prescriptive/non-prescriptive drugs, MAO inhibitors, herbal remedies, or dietary supplements.
  • You recently had a heart attack or have cardiovascular conditions.
  • You are about to undergo surgery or receive electroshock therapy.
  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Smoking may reduce Imipramine’s effectiveness.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment.
  • Limit prolonged exposure to sunlight to avoid sensitivity reactions.

Regular follow-ups are crucial to monitor the effectiveness and manage side effects.
