Description

Voriconazole, the active ingredient in Azofend, is a triazole antifungal that disrupts fungal cell membrane formation. It works by inhibiting the enzyme CYP450-dependent 14-alpha sterol demethylase, which is crucial for synthesizing ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. Blocking this enzyme depletes ergosterol, impairing fungal cell integrity and growth.

Azofend, a triazole-class antifungal, is used to treat serious fungal infections in patients aged 12 years and older. It is indicated for:

  • Invasive Aspergillosis
  • Candidemia (nonneutropenic) and other forms of disseminated candidiasis (affecting skin, abdomen, kidneys, bladder wall, and wounds)
  • Esophageal candidiasis
  • Severe infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium species including Fusarium solani

Patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to other antifungal treatments
