It contains posaconazole, a triazole antifungal that:
Blocks an enzyme (sterol 14α-demethylase) needed for making ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane.
Causes fungal cell membranes to weaken, leading to growth inhibition and cell death.
Xpos 100 belongs to a class of antifungal medicines called azole antifungals. It is used to:
- Treat serious fungal infections when other antifungal medicines have not worked or were stopped due to side effects.
- Prevent invasive Aspergillus and Candida infections in patients at high risk, such as:
- Patients with hematologic cancers receiving chemotherapy (leading to prolonged low white blood cells).
- Stem cell transplant recipients with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) are receiving strong immunosuppressant therapy.
Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet whole with water (do not crush or chew).
The duration of treatment depends on your medical condition and response.
You should avoid or use Xpos 100 with caution if you:
- Are allergic to posaconazole or similar antifungal medicines (like itraconazole, fluconazole, or ketoconazole).
- Are you pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding (unless your doctor finds it necessary).
- Are you taking certain medicines that may interact and cause serious side effects (inform your doctor about all ongoing medications).
Pregnancy: Only if the doctor decides the benefits outweigh the risks.
