Mesacol 400 contains mesalazine (also called mesalamine or 5-aminosalicylic Acid) as its active ingredient. It is used to treat:
- Ulcerative colitis is characterized by inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the large intestine.
- Prevention of recurrence of symptoms associated with ulcerative colitis.
Mesacol 400 mg Tablet is used for the treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, a condition that causes swelling and sores in the lining of the colon (large intestine) and rectum. It helps relieve symptoms such as rectal bleeding, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort by inhibiting the production of substances that cause inflammation.
- The dosage depends on the severity of the condition. For adults, the dosage can be up to 4 gm mesalamine once daily or divided into 2-4 doses for active disease, and 2 gm mesalamine once daily for maintenance treatment.
- Mesacol 400 mg Tablet should be taken with food to avoid stomach discomfort. It is important to take this medicine at the same time every day to maintain a consistent level in your body. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, as your symptoms could reoccur.
- Be cautious if taking other nephrotoxic agents such as NSAIDs and Azathioprine, as they may increase the risk of renal reactions.
