Febustat tablets are prescribed for the long-term management of hyperuricemia in individuals with gout. These tablets are not intended for treating asymptomatic hyperuricemia.
Febuxostat is a selective, non-purine xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor. It works by lowering uric acid levels in the blood by inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which converts hypoxanthine into xanthine and subsequently into uric acid. Unlike other treatments, Febuxostat does not interfere with enzymes involved in purine and pyrimidine metabolism at therapeutic doses.
