Rosuvastatin belongs to the statin class of medicines. It works by blocking HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver. This action:
- Lowers LDL (“bad”) cholesterol
- Reduces triglycerides
- Increases HDL (“good”) cholesterol
- Improves removal of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream
- Take Rostab 5 exactly as directed by your healthcare provider.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water.
- Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.
- It may be taken with or without food.
- Taking it at the same time each day is recommended.
Rostab 5 is a statin medication used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Cholesterol can accumulate inside blood vessels, causing narrowing and restricting blood flow. By lowering cholesterol, Rostab 5 helps protect the heart and blood vessels.
Adult Dosage
- Initial dose: 5 mg or 10 mg once daily
- Dose adjustments may be made at intervals of at least 4 weeks
- Maximum dose: 40 mg once daily
Children (Over 10 Years)
For heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia:
- Initial dose: 5 mg once daily
- Maximum dose: 20 mg daily
Renal Impairment
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min/1.73m², not on dialysis): Start with 5 mg daily and do not exceed 10 mg daily.
- Mild to moderate impairment: Usually no dosage adjustment is required.
Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue normally. Do not take two doses within 12 hours.
