Tapazol is prescribed for:
- Hyperthyroidism in Graves’ disease or toxic multinodular goiter when surgery or radioactive iodine therapy is not suitable.
- Symptom relief before thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine therapy.
Methimazole works by inhibiting thyroid hormone synthesis, making it effective for hyperthyroidism. However, it does not deactivate already circulating or stored thyroid hormones, nor does it affect externally administered thyroid hormones. It is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, metabolized in the liver, and excreted via urine.
