Cilnidipine belongs to the dihydropyridine class of calcium channel blockers. It works by blocking calcium entry through L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, leading to relaxation of blood vessels and lowering of blood pressure.
Additionally, cilnidipine inhibits N-type calcium channels in sympathetic nerve cells, reducing the release of norepinephrine. This dual action not only lowers blood pressure but may also help prevent the reflex increase in heart rate that can occur after blood pressure reduction.
Duocard is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and helps protect vital organs from damage caused by elevated blood pressure. It may be particularly beneficial for older adults, individuals with diabetes accompanied by albuminuria, and patients with chronic kidney disease.

Cilnidipine is not recommended during pregnancy or for women who may become pregnant. Nursing mothers should generally avoid using this medication. If treatment is essential, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
