Prosan HZ tablet is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.
Prosan HZ is a combination medication that includes Hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic) and Losartan (an Angiotensin II receptor antagonist). It’s used to manage essential hypertension, a condition where blood pressure is consistently high, potentially leading to severe complications like heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and blindness.
Losartan works by blocking the effects of Angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide helps by increasing urine output, which also lowers blood pressure.
While using Prosan HZÂ your doctor will monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels to avoid side effects. This medication is not suitable for children under 18 or adults with severe kidney or liver issues. Long-term use can increase the risk of skin and lip cancer, so it’s important to protect your skin from sun exposure.
Prosan HZ should not be used by pregnant women (especially after the first trimester) or breastfeeding mothers, as it could harm the baby. The most common side effects include cough, diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness, tiredness, and headaches. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor.
