Teana AM is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, either as a monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. It may also be used as initial therapy for patients who are likely to require multiple medications to achieve their blood pressure goals.

Teana AM is a fixed-dose combination of two active ingredients:
Telmisartan: A non-peptide angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor. Angiotensin II is a key regulator of blood pressure, and its effects include vasoconstriction, aldosterone release, and renal sodium reabsorption. By blocking these actions, Telmisartan helps dilate blood vessels and lower blood pressure without affecting heart rate.
- Affinity: Telmisartan has a much greater affinity for the AT1 receptor (>3,000 fold) compared to the AT2 receptor, making it highly selective in its action.
Amlodipine: A dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker (CCB). It inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This causes the blood vessels to dilate, reducing peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. Amlodipine acts directly on the blood vessels, making it an effective vasodilator.
Together, Telmisartan and Amlodipine work synergistically to control blood pressure by reducing vascular resistance and preventing the vasoconstrictive effects of angiotensin II.
