Description

Cefixime is a semisynthetic third-generation cephalosporin that kills bacteria by disrupting the synthesis of their cell walls. It is stable against beta-lactamase enzymes, which makes it effective against resistant bacteria. Its absorption is approximately 40%-50%, irrespective of food intake.

Afix (Cefixime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is used to treat the following infections caused by susceptible microorganisms:

Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI):

  • Includes conditions like otitis media or other URTI, especially when resistant bacteria or significant treatment failure risks are suspected.

Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (LRTI):

  • Includes bronchitis.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI):

  • Includes conditions like cystitis, cystourethritis, and pyelonephritis.

Pathogens Treated:

  • Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species, Haemophilus influenzae (beta-lactamase positive/negative), Moraxella catarrhalis (beta-lactamase positive/negative), and Enterobacter species.
