Clindamycin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in various forms such as tablets, capsules, injections, gels, creams, and lotions. It is effective against bacterial infections in the lungs, skin, bones, joints, stomach, intestine, and acne. However, it does not work against viral infections.
Common side effects of Clindamycin include diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, skin rash, itching, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. If these side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor. Avoid Clindamycin if you have a previous allergy to it. The topical form is not recommended for children under 12 years old.
Dosage instructions vary depending on the form. For oral forms, take as prescribed with or without food. Injectable forms will be administered in a hospital setting. Apply the required amount of topical Clindamycin to the affected area as advised by your doctor. Complete the treatment course to prevent bacterial resistance and potential relapse.

When caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria or susceptible strains of gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococci, Staphylococci, and Pneumococci, clindamycin has been shown to be effective in the treatment of the following infections: upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, pelvic infections, and intra-abdominal infections. When used with quinine or amodiaquine, as an alternate medication for the treatment of multi-drug resistant Plasmodium falciparum infection.
