Novirax cream is indicated for the treatment of recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores) in immunocompetent adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older.
1. Herpes Zoster (Shingles):
- A viral infection causing a painful rash, characterized by red skin rashes, pain, and burning. The virus (Varicella-Zoster virus) remains dormant in the nervous system for years before reactivating as shingles. It typically appears on the face, neck, torso, and one side of the body, and can also affect the eyes (ophthalmic herpes zoster).
- Antiviral medicines like Acyclovir help in managing shingles by reducing pain and speeding up the healing process.
2. Genital Herpes Infection:
- A common sexually transmitted infection affecting both men and women is characterized by genital pain, irritation, itching, and sores. It is marked by genital pain and sores.
- Acyclovir helps alleviate the symptoms and promotes the healing of sores in genital herpes.
3. Herpes Labialis:
- A viral infection affecting the lips is commonly known as cold sores. Symptoms include burning pain and small blisters on the lips. In some cases, it can also cause fever.
- Acyclovir aids in the healing process of cold sores, reducing pain and speeding up recovery.
4. Chickenpox:
- A highly contagious viral infection presenting with a rash, small painful blisters, fever, sore throat, and body pain.
- Acyclovir tablets should be taken within 24 to 48 hours after the onset of chickenpox rash to aid in recovery. It is important to avoid contact with others who have chickenpox and maintain good hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus.
