Obeticholic acid is used in the treatment of Primary biliary cirrhosis.

Livacol 5mg Tablet contains Obeticholic acid, a medication classified as a Farnesoid X receptor agonist. It is prescribed for the treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), also known as primary biliary cirrhosis, in adults. PBC is a chronic liver disorder characterized by the gradual destruction of bile ducts in the liver, leading to the accumulation of bile and resulting in liver inflammation and scarring.

  • Livacol 5mg Tablet should not be used by pregnant women. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before starting this medication.
  • Breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking Livacol 5mg Tablet.
  • The medication is not recommended for children and adolescents under the age of 18 and should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 and above.
  • Before initiating treatment with Livacol 5mg Tablet, your doctor may recommend blood tests to assess your liver function.
