Tolfenamic Acid | Namitol is used for:

  1. Relief of migraine headache pain
  2. Management of post-operative pain
  3. Reduction of fever

Tolfenamic acid is a fenamate NSAID that inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and thromboxane B2 (TXB2). This action decreases pain, swelling, and inflammation. Additionally, it has a direct antagonistic effect on prostaglandin receptors.

Absorption: Rapid from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentration in 60–90 minutes

Bioavailability: ~85%

Distribution: 99% protein-bound

Half-life: 2 hours

Metabolism: Liver; undergoes enterohepatic circulation

Excretion: Mainly via urine (~90%) and feces
