Xylomet/Xylometazoline Hydrochloride 0.1% Nasal Drops is prescribed for:

- ✔ Not recommended for prolonged use (>7 days).

Nasal congestion results from swelling of venous sinusoids in the nasal mucosa due to conditions like rhinosinusitis or allergic/non-allergic rhinitis.
- Xylometazoline’s Role:
- Activates α-adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction and improved airflow.
- Works primarily on α2B-adrenoceptors, with some activity at α1A, α2A, α2C, α1B, and α1D-adrenoceptors.
- Provides faster relief than oxymetazoline, although their durations of action are similar.
📌 Some patients also reported relief from earache and sore throat, possibly due to improved nasal breathing.
