Bufen-SR (contains ibuprofen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce pain, swelling, and fever. It is prescribed for:
- Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gouty arthritis, juvenile polyarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, synovitis
- Low back pain, soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains, sports injuries
- Dysmenorrhoea (painful periods), migraine, and fever
- Pain and inflammation from dental or musculoskeletal causes
Ibuprofen in Bufen-SR blocks an enzyme called cyclooxygenase (COX), which reduces prostaglandin production. Prostaglandins cause pain, swelling, and fever—so reducing them helps relieve symptoms.
- Adults: Usually 400 mg three times daily. Do not exceed 2400 mg daily unless your doctor instructs otherwise.
- Children: Dose depends on age, weight, and condition. Always follow your doctor’s advice.
Take with food or milk to reduce stomach upset.
Do not take indigestion remedies (antacids) within 2 hours of Bufen-SR.
