Napgin contains naproxen, a non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Like other NSAIDs, it works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins—chemicals responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever.
COX-2 inhibition contributes to its analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects.
COX-1 inhibition, on the other hand, is associated with undesirable gastrointestinal and renal side effects, as this enzyme is normally active in tissues like the stomach lining.
