- Treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms due to menopause
- Prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
This medication works by modulating estrogen receptor activity. Conjugated estrogens act on estrogen receptors to relieve symptoms of estrogen deficiency, while bazedoxifene selectively blocks estrogen’s effects on the uterus, offering endometrial protection.
Bestron is a combination therapy comprising conjugated estrogens and bazedoxifene (a selective estrogen receptor modulator or SERM). It is prescribed for women with an intact uterus to manage moderate to severe menopausal symptoms (such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness) and to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. The estrogen component alleviates menopausal symptoms, while bazedoxifene helps maintain bone density and lowers the risk of estrogen-induced endometrial cancer.
