Clavulanic acid binds to and inhibits certain beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria. These enzymes can otherwise destroy the beta-lactam structure of amoxicillin and make the antibiotic ineffective. By inhibiting these enzymes, clavulanic acid helps protect amoxicillin and broadens its antibacterial activity against susceptible beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.
Zylopen 500mg/125 is a penicillin-class antibiotic containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, ears, sinuses, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues. It does not work against viral illnesses such as the common cold or flu.
Zylopen 500mg/125 should preferably be taken with food to minimize stomach discomfort. Take it at evenly spaced intervals and at the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time each day can help you remember your doses. Always complete the entire course, even if your symptoms improve. Stopping treatment too early may allow bacteria to survive, causing the infection to return or become more difficult to treat.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These effects are generally mild and temporary, but consult your doctor if they become severe, persistent, or troublesome.
Before using Zylopen 500mg/125, inform your doctor if you have previously experienced an allergy to penicillin, cephalosporins, or other antibiotics. Tell your healthcare provider if you have kidney or liver problems, as your treatment may require adjustment or monitoring. Also disclose all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking because some may interact with this antibiotic.
Zylopen 500mg/125 may generally be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding when considered appropriate by a doctor. Since the medicine passes into breast milk, breastfeeding mothers should use it under medical advice.
