Tenoxicam, belonging to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), exerts its effects by interfering with the production of compounds in the body responsible for pain and inflammation. It specifically works by inhibiting the enzyme involved in prostaglandin biosynthesis. Prostaglandins sensitize pain receptors, and their inhibition contributes to the analgesic effects of tenoxicam. Additionally, tenoxicam acts as a scavenger for active oxygen at the site of inflammation and inhibits certain enzymes that cause cartilage disintegration, contributing to its anti-inflammatory and degenerative musculoskeletal disorder treatment.

Tenoxicam is used to relieve symptoms associated with various painful inflammatory and degenerative disorders of the musculoskeletal system. This includes conditions such as:

• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Osteoarthritis
• Arthrosis
• Ankylosing spondylitis
• Extra-articular disorders (e.g., tendinitis, bursitis, periarthritis)
• Acute gout

The medication helps in reducing inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and pain related to these conditions. Although the onset of action may be early, the full benefits may take up to 2 weeks to become noticeable, particularly for certain types of arthritis.

• Allergies and Sensitivities: Do not take tenoxicam if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
• Surgery and Anesthesia: Avoid if you are a senior undergoing anesthesia or surgery.
• Increased Bleeding Risk: Not recommended if you are at risk of increased bleeding.
• Kidney Failure Risk: Contraindicated if at risk of kidney failure.
• Active Gastrointestinal Diseases: Avoid the presence of active inflammatory diseases in the stomach or intestine (e.g., ulcerative colitis) or active stomach or intestinal ulcers.
• Previous Allergic Reactions: Do not take if you’ve had an acute asthmatic attack, hives, rhinitis, or other allergic reactions caused by ASA or other NSAIDs.
