Azathioprine belongs to the class of cytotoxic immunosuppressants and acts as an immunosuppressive antimetabolite by antagonizing purine metabolism.
Imruza 50mg Tablet is utilized as an immunosuppressant antimetabolite, either alone or in combination with other agents such as corticosteroids, and procedures that affect the immune response. Its therapeutic effects may take weeks or months to become evident and can include a steroid-sparing effect, thereby reducing the toxicity associated with high doses and prolonged usage of corticosteroids.
It is indicated for:
- Enhancing the survival of organ transplants, including renal, cardiac, and hepatic transplants, and reducing the corticosteroid requirements of renal transplant recipients.
- Treating moderate to severe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, in patients requiring corticosteroid therapy, those unable to tolerate corticosteroid therapy, or those with refractory disease to standard first-line therapy.
- Managing various autoimmune diseases, including severe active rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis and polymyositis, autoimmune chronic active hepatitis, pemphigus vulgaris, polyarteritis nodosa, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and chronic refractory idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.
