Caftadin is an antihistaminic medication. It is used to treat inflammation of eyes (redness and swelling) caused due to various allergies. It helps in short-term or sudden allergic reactions in the eye. Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely for administering Caftadin in the eye. It should be used regularly at evenly spaced time intervals as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the returning or worsening. Commonly seen side effects seen with this medicine include temporary eye irritation and burning sensation after administration. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or if your condition worsens. It may cause blurring of your vision for a short time just after its use, so not drive until your vision is clear.

How to use Caftadin

This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.

How Caftadin works

Caftadin is an antihistaminic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.

What if you forget to take Caftadin?

If you miss a dose of Caftadin, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

 

Quick Tips

  • Your doctor has prescribed Caftadin to treat inflammation (redness and swelling) due to allergies of the eye.
  • It treats short-term or sudden allergic reactions in the eye.
  • Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
  • Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
  • Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 mins. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.
  • Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

 

Brief Description

Indication

Prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

Adult Dose

Instill one drop in each eye once daily.

Contraindication

Alcaftadine eye drop is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this product.

Mode of Action

Alcaftadine is an H1, H2 & H4 histamine receptor antagonist and inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells.

Precaution

The drug should not be instilled while wearing contact lenses. If hypersensitivity reaction occurs after instillation patients should be advised to discontinue the use of Alcaftadine and consult with physicians. Lactation: Unknown whether distributed in breast milk, caution advised.
