Ketocon 2% Shampoo 100ml

Indications

Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is used to treat and prevent diseases caused by the yeast Malassezia (previously known as Pityrosporum), including pityriasis Versicolor (localized), seborrheic dermatitis, and pityriasis capitis (dandruff).

Pharmacology

Ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo is a synthetic antifungal drug with a broad spectrum imidazole-dioxolane structure that inhibits the in vitro development of the following common dermatophytes and yeasts by changing cell membrane permeability: Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, M. Baudouin, M. gypseum, and Epiderm (Pityrosporum orbiculare).

Dosage & Administration

Treatment:

• Pityriasis versicolor: Once a day for five days.
• Pityriasis capitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis: Twice weekly for 2 to 4 weeks.
• Pityriasis versicolor: Once daily for three days prior to the summer.
• Pityriasis capitis and seborrheic dermatitis: once every 1 or 2 weeks

Administration: 

• This medication is only for external use.
• Use it according to your doctor’s instructions for dosage and duration.
• Before using, read the label carefully.
• After cleaning and drying the affected area, apply the cream.
• Unless your hands are in the affected area, wash your hands after applying.
• The affected areas of the skin or the scalp should be washed with ketoconazole 2% shampoo, which should be left on the skin/scalp for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing.

Contraindications

In individuals who have a known allergy to ketoconazole, this medication is contraindicated.

Side Effects

The topical application of 2% ketoconazole shampoo is usually well tolerated. Exposed areas may experience a local burning sensation, itching, or contact dermatitis, as with other shampoos (owing to irritation or allergies). The use of 2% ketoconazole shampoo has rarely resulted in oily or dry hair.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not contraindications for using ketoconazole shampoo 2% since ketoconazole is not absorbed through the skin after topical application.

Precautions & Warnings

• To avoid any potential rebound effect in patients who have been on long-term treatment with topical corticosteroids, the steroid medication should be gradually tapered off over a 2 to the 3-week period while using ketoconazole shampoo 2%.
• Hair shedding is frequently associated with seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff, and it has only been observed rarely with the use of ketoconazole shampoo 2%.
• Avoid making direct eye contact. If the shampoo gets into your eyes, thoroughly rinse them with water.
