Piracetam is a nootropic agent that acts on the brain to enhance cognitive performance in both normal individuals and those with functional CNS impairment.
It works by:
- Modifying neurotransmission in the brain
- Improving neuronal metabolic environment
- Enhancing microcirculation without causing vasodilation
- Increasing oxygen and glucose utilization in cerebral tissues
It does not produce sedation or stimulation. In some conditions, it improves EEG activity patterns by increasing alpha and beta activity and reducing delta activity.
It also:
- Improves platelet function by reducing aggregation
- Enhances red blood cell deformability, improving microvascular flow
- Supports recovery after cerebral trauma, hypoxia, intoxication, and electroshock therapy
- May reduce vestibular nystagmus duration
Juvain is indicated for the treatment of:
Cerebral vascular accidents & cerebral insufficiency:
- Ischaemic stroke or hemorrhagic cerebral events
