A-Phenicol Eye Drops are used to treat bacterial eye infections, particularly bacterial conjunctivitis. They help eliminate the bacteria causing the infection and relieve associated symptoms.
A-Phenicol contains chloramphenicol, an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This prevents bacteria from producing essential proteins needed for growth and survival, ultimately clearing the infection.
- Use exactly as directed by your doctor.
- For adults, the usual dose is 1 drop into the affected eye every 2 hours, with the frequency reduced as symptoms improve.
- Treatment should continue for at least 48 hours after complete healing.
- Do not use for longer than 5 days without medical advice.
- Wash your hands before application and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface or the eye.
