Amenamevir acts by inhibiting the viral helicase–primase complex, an enzyme crucial for viral DNA unwinding and primer synthesis during replication. This mechanism differs from standard antivirals such as acyclovir and valaciclovir, which inhibit viral DNA polymerase.
Amenavir tablet is used for the treatment of herpes simplex infection, recurrent herpes simplex, and herpes zoster (shingles). Due to its novel mechanism of action, it is a useful alternative for patients who have developed resistance to conventional antiviral agents.
