Levamlodipine is the active antihypertensive isomer of amlodipine. It blocks calcium from entering vascular smooth muscle cells, causing the blood vessels to relax and widen. This reduces vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure.
- Adults: Usually 2.5 mg once daily; maximum 5 mg once daily.
- Elderly or severe liver impairment: Treatment may begin at 1.25 mg once daily.
- Children 6–17 years: Usually 1.25–2.5 mg once daily.
- It can be taken with or without food.
- Dose adjustments should be made by a registered physician, generally allowing 7–14 days between dose increases.
Amlevo contains Levamlodipine, a calcium-channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6 years and older. By lowering blood pressure, it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke and heart attack.
