Artesunate, an artemisinin derivative, is a potent antimalarial drug indicated for the following conditions:

  1. Treatment of severe and complicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum in both adults and children.
  2. Treatment of uncomplicated malaria in areas with multidrug-resistant Plasmodium falciparum.
  3. Suitable for salvaging patients with pernicious malaria and treating malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.
  • Treatment of severe malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.
  • Used when other anti-malarial drugs are ineffective.
  • May be combined with other antimalarials.
  • Inhibits the final step of the malarial cycle in humans, preventing the spread of the infection.
  • Blood tests may be conducted to monitor malarial parasite presence.
  • Suitable for both adults and children
