Azelaic Acid 20% topical is classified as an “anti-acne medication” and is primarily used to treat acne (pimples) and rosacea (redness and visible blood vessels on the face). Azelaic Acid has several properties, including antibacterial, keratolytic (removing warts, calluses, and lesions), comedolytic (inhibiting blemish formation), and antioxidant activities. It is effective in clearing bumps, lesions, and swelling caused by rosacea. Acne occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to the formation of whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by redness, flushing, and the presence of pimples on the face.

Azelaic Acid contains the active ingredient ‘Azelaic acid,’ which acts as a bactericidal agent, killing bacteria. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of microbial cellular proteins. Azelaic Acid helps clear pores of bacteria that cause irritation and breakouts and reduces inflammation, making acne less visible, less red, and less irritated. It also aids in skin renewal and reduces the formation of pimples and blackheads.

Azelaic Acid is intended for external use only and should be avoided in contact with the eyes, eyelids, lips, mouth, and nose. If accidental contact occurs in these areas, immediate rinsing with water is recommended.
