Description

Azo is prescribed for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

  • Respiratory Infections: Bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis.
  • Ear, Skin, and Soft Tissue Infections
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections: Non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.

Azithromycin is acid-stable and effectively absorbed when taken orally, especially on an empty stomach. It reaches peak concentration in 2.1 to 3.2 hours. The drug accumulates in phagocytes and is released at infection sites. It has a long half-life, allowing prolonged action even after a single dose. Excretion occurs mainly through bile, with a small percentage eliminated via urine.
