Benozol PF is used to manage elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
Benozol PF inhibits carbonic anhydrase (CA), an enzyme found in various tissues, including the eye. By blocking CA activity in the ciliary processes it reduces the formation of bicarbonate ions, leading to decreased sodium and fluid transport. This results in reduced aqueous humor production and lower intraocular pressure (IOP).
