Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal androgen receptor inhibitor. It works by binding competitively to androgen receptors in target tissues, inhibiting the action of androgens. Prostatic carcinoma is androgen-sensitive, and Bicalutamide counteracts the effects of androgens, thereby slowing the growth of cancer or shrinking the tumor.
Bicalutamide (Bical) is indicated for use in combination therapy with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analog for the treatment of Stage D2 metastatic carcinoma of the prostate.
Bical 50 Tablet is used to treat prostate cancer, a type of cancer that develops in the prostate gland, which is located under the bladder and produces semen in men. Symptoms of prostate cancer include difficulty in urination, pain, numbness, or sexual problems.
Bical 50 Tablet contains Bicalutamide, an anti-androgen. It works by:
- Blocking the effects of androgens (male hormones like testosterone) that stimulate the growth of prostate cancer cells.
- Preventing testosterone from binding to androgen receptors on prostate cancer cells.
- Starving cancer cells of testosterone, thereby inhibiting their growth and eventually shrinking the prostate tumor.
