Description

Bukof is used to relieve dry (non-productive) cough, including:

  • Cough due to recent viral infections
  • Pre- and post-operative cough
  • Sedation before procedures such as bronchoscopy
  • Acute cough of any cause
  • Whooping cough
  • Cough associated with lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., tracheitis, laryngitis, bronchitis)

Bukof contains Butamirate Citrate, which acts directly on the brain’s cough center to suppress coughing.
It is a non-opioid, non-sedating antitussive, unrelated to opium derivatives.

After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed, reaching peak levels (for sustained-release form) within about 9 hours. It is highly protein-bound, with an elimination half-life of approximately 13 hours. Its active metabolites also contribute to cough suppression.
