Cefixime, the active ingredient of Cefim-3, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic.
It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death.
Resistance: Unlike many cephalosporins, Cefixime is resistant to degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against organisms resistant to penicillins and some other cephalosporins.
Cefim-3 is prescribed for children in the short-term management of bacterial infections, including:
- Ear, nose, throat, and sinus infections (otitis media, pharyngitis, sinusitis)
- Respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia)
- Urinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis)
- Gastrointestinal infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Blood and bone infections
- Genital infections
- Typhoid fever (to reduce the risk and treat active cases)
