Ceforan 50 ml Suspension is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs (such as pneumonia), urinary tract, ear, sinuses, throat, and skin. It works by destroying the bacteria responsible for the infection, helping relieve symptoms and promote recovery. It is not effective against viral infections such as the common cold or influenza.
Take Ceforan 50 ml with food, exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take it at the same time each day and complete the full course of treatment, even if you start feeling better. Stopping the antibiotic early may allow bacteria to survive, increasing the risk of the infection returning and contributing to antibiotic resistance.
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash, and stomach discomfort. Taking the medicine after meals may help reduce stomach upset. Contact your doctor if side effects become severe or persistent. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, itching, rash, or difficulty breathing.
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have a history of allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins, kidney disease, or liver problems. This medicine is generally considered safe during pregnancy when prescribed by a physician. Although only small amounts pass into breast milk, breastfeeding mothers should use it only under medical advice. It may occasionally cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision, so avoid driving or operating machinery if these occur.
- Take with food, preferably after meals.
- Swallow tablets whole; do not crush or chew.
- For oral suspension, add the recommended amount of water in two portions, shaking well after each addition before use.

Cefpodoxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), causing the bacteria to break down and die.
- Known allergy to cefpodoxime or other cephalosporin antibiotics.
- Use cautiously in patients with a history of penicillin allergy or severe kidney impairment.
- Monitor for severe diarrhea, which may indicate antibiotic-associated colitis.
- Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only under medical supervision.
Common side effects
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Rash
- Headache
- Vaginal yeast infection
- Severe allergic reactions
- Pseudomembranous colitis
- Kidney toxicity
- Antacids and H2-receptor blockers may reduce cefpodoxime absorption.
- Probenecid may increase cefpodoxime levels by reducing its elimination.
- Furosemide and other nephrotoxic medicines may increase the risk of kidney damage; renal function should be monitored during combined use.
- Complete the entire antibiotic course, even if symptoms improve.
- Take the medicine with food to reduce stomach upset.
- Avoid unnecessary use for viral infections such as colds or flu.
- Contact your doctor if diarrhea is severe, persistent, or contains blood.
