Description

Coal tar + Salicylic Acid is used for the treatment of Psoriasis

Coal tar + Salicylic Acid is a medication categorized as a ‘keratolytic agent,’ commonly employed to address various skin conditions such as psoriasis, dandruff, and seborrheic dermatitis. These skin issues are characterized by symptoms like scaling, redness, and the formation of scaly patches. The primary purpose of Coal tar + Salicylic Acid is to alleviate the hardening, thickening, and scaling of the skin.

This medication combines two active ingredients:

Salicylic Acid: This acts as a keratolytic agent, softening, separating, and causing desquamation (peeling) of the outer layer of the skin. Salicylic acid increases skin moisture, dissolves substances causing skin cells to stick together, breaks down clumps of keratin, removes dead skin cells, and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Coal Tar: A keratoplastic agent that thickens the keratin layers of the skin. It works by removing dead cells from the skin’s top layer and slowing down the growth of skin cells, reducing scaling and dryness, and relieving itchiness

Usage of Coal tar + Salicylic Acid is typically topical (applied to the skin). Common side effects may include warmth or a burning sensation, skin irritation, itching, and redness at the application site. These effects are often transient, lasting around five minutes after application.

It’s important to inform your doctor about any allergic reactions to Coal tar + Salicylic Acid or other medications. Avoid applying dressings or bandages to the affected area unless advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you have underlying conditions such as kidney or liver diseases, folliculitis, lupus erythematosus, broken or infected skin, diabetes, poor blood circulation, or other skin infections. Pregnant and breastfeeding individuals should seek medical advice before initiating Cutis Tar Shampoo.
