Gliclazide, a second-generation sulfonylurea, lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic β-cells. This occurs by enhancing calcium ion influx across the β-cell membrane. Additionally, it reduces hepatic glucose production, contributing to improved glycemic control. Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia may impair concentration and reaction time. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.

Diamicron MR is an oral antidiabetic medication from the sulfonylurea class, indicated for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is prescribed when diet, exercise, and weight control alone are insufficient to maintain optimal blood sugar levels.
Overdose: May cause severe hypoglycemia. Take sugar or sweet fluids immediately and seek emergency medical help.
Missed dose: Skip and resume regular dosing. Do not double up.
