Diclomol contains Diclofenac Sodium, a powerful non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-rheumatic, and antipyretic properties. It also has mild uricosuric effects.
Diclofenac works by inhibiting prostaglandin biosynthesis, which plays a key role in pain, inflammation, and fever. When taken with or after food, it is rapidly and completely absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak plasma concentration within approximately 2 hours. At therapeutic levels, 99.7% of the drug binds to plasma proteins. It is metabolized in the liver and undergoes first-pass metabolism.
- Rheumatology: Used for treating inflammatory and degenerative rheumatic conditions such as chronic involutive polyarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, spondylarthrosis, acute gout, and peri-articular rheumatic disorders.
- Surgery and Traumatology: Effective for managing pain and inflammation in cases of sprains, bruises, dislocations, fractures, soft tissue injuries, and post-surgical recovery.
- Obstetrics and Gynecology: Recommended for conditions like primary dysmenorrhea, episiotomy, adnexitis, endometritis, parametritis, salpingitis, and mastitis.
- Otorhinolaryngology (ENT): Used as a pre-operative medication to reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation.
- Dentistry: Helps alleviate post-operative and post-traumatic pain, swelling, and inflammation.
- Other Uses: Prescribed for pain relief and inflammation management in patients who have undergone surgery on the urogenital tract, as well as for renal and biliary colic.
