Dinogest is prescribed for the treatment of endometriosis. It belongs to the progestin class of medications, which work by reducing the effects of estrogen on tissues such as the endometrium (uterine lining) and breasts. By limiting estrogen’s influence, Dinogest helps reduce pelvic pain associated with endometriosis.
Dienogest functions as a progesterone receptor (PR) agonist with weak receptor affinity but strong progestagenic effects on the endometrium, leading to endometrial atrophy with prolonged use. It exhibits antiproliferative, immunologic, and antiangiogenic properties, suppressing both normal and ectopic endometrial tissue growth by reducing endogenous estradiol levels.
Continuous use of Dienogest creates a high-progesterone, moderately low-estrogen environment, initially causing decidualization (thinning) of the endometrial lining. Additionally, it has anti-androgenic properties, which may help improve acne and hirsutism.
