Diproxen is used to alleviate symptoms and inflammation associated with:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Osteoarthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Juvenile arthritis
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Acute gout
It is also effective in managing primary dysmenorrhea and various types of pain.
Naproxen, a non-selective NSAID, inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, reducing prostaglandin production. While COX-2 is primarily responsible for inflammation, pain, and fever (and hence the therapeutic effects), COX-1 maintains normal functions like protecting the stomach lining. Inhibition of COX-1 is linked to gastrointestinal and renal side effects.
