Description

Entresto contains sacubitril (a neprilysin inhibitor) and valsartan (an angiotensin receptor blocker). Sacubitril increases levels of beneficial peptides that support cardiovascular and kidney function, while valsartan blocks the angiotensin II receptor, reducing its effects on blood vessels and aldosterone release.

Entresto is used to:

  • Lower the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalizations in patients with chronic heart failure (NYHA Class II-IV) and reduced ejection fraction.
  • Treat symptomatic heart failure with systemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction in pediatric patients aged one year and older.
  • It is typically used with other heart failure treatments, replacing ACE inhibitors or ARBs.
