- Filmet Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that helps your body fight infections caused by bacteria and parasites. It is used to treat infections of the liver, stomach, intestines, vagina, brain, heart, lungs, bones, and skin.
- Filmet Syrup helps prevent an infection after surgery.
- Filmet Oral Suspension is also used in the treatment of dental infections, leg ulcers, and pressure sores. This medicine is best taken after eating some food. It should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit.
- The amount of Filmet Syrup you are advised of will depend on what you are being treated for and how bad it is, but you should take this antibiotic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If symptoms may get better after a short time but do not stop taking it until you have finished a full course of treatment, even if you feel well.
Metronidazole is indicated in:
- All forms of amoebiasis (intestinal and extra-intestinal disease including liver abscess and symptomless cyst passers)
- Trichomoniasis
- Giardiasis
- Bacterial vaginosis
- Acute ulcerative gingivitis
- Anaerobic infections include septicemia, bacteremia, peritonitis, brain abscess, necrotizing pneumonia, osteomyelitis, puerperal sepsis, pelvic abscess, pelvic cellulitis, etc.
- Anaerobically-infected leg ulcers and pressure sores
- Acute dental infections (e.g. acute pericoronitis and acute apical infections)
- Surgical prophylaxis (prevention of postoperative infections due to anaerobic bacteria, particularly species of Bacteroides and anaerobic streptococci
- Chronic symptomatic peptic ulcer disease (as an agent of triple therapy to eradicate H. pylori-the most important aetiological factor of peptic ulcer)
